will cold water kill swan eggs

Hi,

There are 2 swans at the furthest east lake at Morgan Creek golf course. They have 9 eggs. Local people feed the birds and try to help by clearing a sluice at the site where the swans have laid their eggs. The sluice became clogged with debris and the swans were in danger of having the water cover the nest of eggs. It still needs more cleaning out in the sluice. Morgan Creek golf course has been made aware of the problem. The debris is made up of branches and reeds and sticks. The proper authorities need to be aware of this so that these swans do not lose their eggs. They should hatch within the next week if the gestational time is about 30 days. I wonder if they are already dead. Would the mother swan realize it if that were the case? Would she still sit on them?

If you turn right off of 32st onto 164 ave in Surrey B.C. then turn left at the end of 164th and turn left on High Park Ave. go to the end and you will see a trail straight ahead. Half way down the trail is a pipe rail around a culvert. Walk in a few feet and you will see the swans. We call them Hoagy and Dorcus….just our pet names for them.

If you go on google earth it is easy to find where the little lake is, following the above instructions.

I hope you can help find someone who is responsible to clear that sluice so the swans will not be in danger. I cleared some of it but was not strong enough to do the rest. It did help the water level to go down a little but now it is clogged up again.

Thank you,
Colleen Brooks
