We had over 100 Cananda geese, and bought swans in hopes of getting rid of the geese. It didn't work all that well. (It helped some - we had 24 this year, but they had been coming here for years to nest.)

What really DID work was to buy a "launcher", some blanks, and Banger Cartridges from westernwildlife.com. It cost $175. and was some of the best money we have ever spent. Launchers are little plastic "guns" that only shoot blanks, which ignite the Banger Cartridges - basically loud fireworks. They explode with a huge bang about 75 feet away. We shot ours out over the water, near the geese. We only had to shoot at the geese a few times and they simply stopped coming to our lake. We have been goose free for several months now. And when they come back, we have lots more blanks and Bangers. :)

We got this set because we live in a city and it is illegal to shoot a gun. Launchers aren't firearms, so they are legal, but we had to get a form (supplied by western wildlife) signed by our local sheriff allowing us to purchase the launcher.
