Hi Jim:

We conducted a survey of swan food for our research, and the following material was obtained. If you take rabbit pellets, 16% and add 9% protein you get a total of 27% fat, even if it is digestive protein. With the layer pellets, 16.3% + 7% cracked corn , you yield 23.3% protein. This may seem miniscule, but we have seen people using higher protein and the angel wing does come into play, especially with the cygnets.

In Enland,(Slimbridge waterfowl conservatory) a survey of swans and other waterfowl with angel wing were prescribed alfalfa and the occurrence of the angel wing was diminished. This is why we have also provided the alfalfa information. Even alfalfa seems to be high in protein, but the researchers showed it to be useful in providing greenery while also cutting the incidents of angel wing. We hope that this information is of benefit.
