feeding swan by hand?
I have lived a on small lake in WI for the last 15 yrs. We have a pair of beautiful Mute swans we call "Swanie" (the male) and "Dolly" (the female). The male is getting pretty brave around me, and ate from my hand last week.
He seems to be more and more compfortable, coming right up to me when i sit on the edge of the dock. I'm a bit nervous with feeding by hand since his teeth look like they might take a chunk of me too.
I've been feeding them wheat bread (out of ignorance), tried dried corn, which they didn't like, and just saw your recommendation of pork pelletsor lettuce.
what else can i feed them? where can i buy it, and if Swanie is getting that comfortable in approaching me is it okay to feed by hand, or will he take that chunk of me after all? Wondering how sharp those teeth really are.
