Where'd The Eggs Go?? The nest is now empty with no trace of egg shells

Where I work we have a huge pond that is home to fish, turtles, plenty of geese, and a swan pair. The pen has been nesting for weeks now and we just noticed that the nest is empty. Originally there were 4 eggs, then someone said they saw only three, then 2 and now none. There are no egg shells either as if they just vanished. But what's even more strange is that the pen is still sitting on the nest and the cob is still protecting the area...what is the deal with that? Did the cob take the eggs; he did kill before...a cygnet from a previous batch. We get really excited around here whenever new babies are to arrive, so naturally we're all very concerned. Hopefully, the new owners of our building did not have them taken them away )-:
Thanks
