In Response To: Re: Orphaned cygnet does not eat (Tracy)

Thank you again for this valuable information. I took him to our wildlife vet last week. He has splayed leg so we have his legs hobbled. Now I have another concern. He does not eat unless I've put the food right in front of him. He could move himself to the food but doesn't. He is about 2 weeks old and only weighs 131 grams. Last week he was 140. He cries almost constantly.

The finder of this cygnet has some recollection of an illness that they can get if they are not put in water regularly. I cannot put this guy in water with his hobbles unless I plan on changing the bandage.

I hope I'm not dealing with a "failure to thrive" situation here.
