Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Re: Swans not eating (James)

They are both going to the feeder some times (once every 2 or 3 days) ....the male seems to be eating and the female sits by her side and does not eat.........when it was not very cold....they would be at the feeder many times a day.....now I am lucky to see them there at all. Today the female died....In Dec. I gave them lettuce every day....and they ate it....until it got cold and they stopped.

Should I put the feeder in the water....will that help......I could build a new feeder and attach it to the middle of a long rope...that is anchored at each side of the pond.....and pull it into the small opening where I have a bubbler. Then every 2 or 3 days I could pull it back to shore and fill it up again. The feeder would be built like a sleigh with a roof over hanging and openings at the side to poke his head in for the food and could also float on the water......

Will the male live by himself...until I get a mate for him this spring
