Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Nest with one egg pushed out (Anne)

WE work in, and keep an eye on a corporate building with pond. The Mute Swan pair have brought 2 cygnets every Spring. This year I have noticed the enclosed pen for Mother Swan is higher elevation, about 6ft higher than pond edge and they have plastic fencing and chicken wire all around the pond surrounding her. This is the 6th week of nesting and I noticed she does have a little one with her on nest, While walking past I noticed one of the eggs had been pushed aside. Is it possible to incubate this egg? at temps of 99 and humidity of 66? And, is Mother Swan eating during this time of sitting on nest? It looks as if she never leaves and I don't see any food or water near her. How do they feed the babies?
