In Response To: Re: Neglected Cygnet (The Regal Swan)

Hi Lisa

The cygnet has angel wing also known as slipped or backward wing. This condition can be genetic but usually is caused because the cygnet received a very high protein diet which caused his growth to happen too quickly.

He will never be able to fly but will make a great pet for someone who has a small pond just as a farm or waterfowl area safely protected from predators and inclement weather. You might check with the Sylvan Waterfowl facility in Swan Neck NC or a waterfowl/wildlife rescue facility. Make sure that a rescue facility is a no kill facility as some of these facilities will kill the young bird rather than deal with trying to find it a good home.

If you cannot find it a home, please contact the administrator of this website with your phone number and we will try to help. The Regal Swan
