My husband has been feeding a pair of swans and their young for several weeks. There are no competitors for food as they are variously fed well by many neighbors on the canals. This morning while feeding, the male flew into a rage and drowned one of the youngsters by repeatedly shoving it under water. It was horrifying. There were no unusual factors to distinguish this morning from any other day. The young all appeared to be healthy and normal. What happened?
