Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Swans with no parents (Tom)

There is a large pond near where I live, it had 2 swans with 7 cygnets, one of the adult swans was found dead at the side of the pond about 1 month ago, some people say it was attacked by a dog, others say it was shot. Therefore leaving behind 7 cygnets and 1 adult swan. Now the other adult has disappeared leaving the 7 cygnets on their own? Is this normal...they are quite big now. The feathers under there wings are turning fully white, not sure if that means anything. Has the swan which lost its partner left them as they are old enough? Or would he/she never leave?. I last saw the adult with them on the 11th September.
