Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Re: Strange action from my swans (male chasing female, used to be loving) (Marie)

We are currently caring for a very sick black swan. She was found on our path unable to lift her head. We've kept her in a cage and avian Vet Jeanne Smith (Diamond Springs CA) did blood work and found she has fungal pneumonia. We've been giving her antibiotics for 2-3 weeks now and she is much better. We've had to keep her in a safe cage so the other birds leave her alone. We were told this could take 2-3 months to cure. We're giving her hard boiled egg and some large fishing worms as well as the corn mixture we give the other birds. She eats now and is gaining her strength. Her name is Gracie.

The Vet was concerned that she wasn't eating but now she is enjoying this new diet.

I hope your swan recovers - it is such a gift to have them.
