Hi Bren:

This is a difficult question to answer due to several variables. One, the area that a person lives and is procuring the swans will determine the accessibility of swans, transportation costs as well as the species of swans that will thrive in that area.

Secondly, the major driving forces are the seller of the swan as well as the species. An unscrupulous breeder or seller can sell a mute or black swan for $1500 when in actuality, you can purchase a pair for $300-$600. These two species are the most readily available so, they will go for a lesser price.

Black-necked swans can go as high as $2500 for one, Trumpeters and Whoopers $1,000 for a pair. Coscorobas usually go for $600 + for one bird. Tundras and Bewicks, the lesser available swans can for as high $2500 a single swan and even higher. Again, these prices will fluctuate depending on the seller and the area in which the swans are being bought. These are high end prices and if you look around, you can possibly find cheaper prices.

The best thing to remember is to buy from a reputable breeder who will provide you with the federal paperwork stating that you did not take the swans from the wild. Secondly, the seller will provide you with the information regarding DNA sequencing or reliable sexing to inform you of the gender, the swans' bloodline as well as the pinioning of the birds. Many an unscrupulous breeder/seller has sold an unsuspecting swan buyer with swans that are not of the gender promised as well as not pinioned which allows the birds to fly away from the buyer's property. We hope this information is of benefit. The Regal Swan
