Since the new swan was introduced by no effort on its own, it is the ethical responsibility for a swan owner to take precautions to help introduce the new swan to its new habitat and other swans and wildlife. First, make certain that it is the opposite sex of the remaining older swan. A male swan may or may not repair. A female swan will usually look for another mate if something happens to is original mate. Two males will usually seriously injure or kill each other especially if they cannot fly from the area.

Place an temporary pen (1/2 in the water and 1/2 on land with a feeder inside). You want an area that the swan can swim and bathe, but exit the water so that it can preen and dry itself. The pen should have a cover on top so that predators cannot jump into the pen and the bottom of the pen protected (use chicken wire under the bottom poles of the chain link fencing to ensure that predators cannot dig under the pen). The new swan should be housed in the pen for approximately 2 weeks to introduce her to her new surroundings, learn how to use the feeding system and get used to the older swan.

If you should let nature take its course, there are only two outcomes. The first, would be the best in that they accept each other and the aggression ceases.
