Hi Lynda:

You are very welcome. Predators, especially in Florida are a major cause of swan deaths. Even though there may not be an alligator in the pond today, it does not mean that they cannot walk or swim from another area to take up residence.

Swans living up north, as long as they are not hunted can usually survive with little or no human interference as long as they can fly. Flying allows them a better chance of survival by escaping predators and northern states do not have to worry about alligators. However, snapping and soft-shelled turtles can be just as deadly if the animal attacks the swans.

Once captive swans are pinioned (rendered unable to fly), then it is the owner's responsibility to maintain a safe secure habitat and this is where the expense and labor commitment becomes crucial. The Regal Swan
