Thank you and your husband for removing the carcass as its presence would have only invited predators and pests to the otherwise safe nesting area.

On another note, if you had removed the carcass by hand, it would have done no harm. Birds don't have a keen sense of smell, so your handling the carcass or being around the nest would not have caused any undue stress to the swans unless they saw you messing with the nest or the family was nearby. So, not to worry on that point. In any case, you got the job done and brilliantly!
