In Response To: Male swan died, female has paired up with other female (Cheryl)

Hello,
A coyote killed our male swan, while defending the female and her eggs. She left with her life, and one egg was left, which is gone. She mourned for 2 weeks, without coming for food etc. She has now taken up with another female swan (yes, we are sure it is a female), and they are now building another nest. Is it common for two females to mate in the case of a loss? It is so sad, as I don't believe the eggs will be fertilized. Do you know how long she will stay on the nest? Will she stay with her new mate?
Thank you,
Cheryl
