Hi Michelle:

Yes, you can introduce another mate, but wait until after mating season (April) before you make the introduction. Also, ensure that a pen (covered-1/2 on land, 1/2 in the water) is used to place the female swan for about 2 weeks. You will need to have a feeder in the pen along with poultry fencing under all fencing (both land and water) to ensure that a coyote, fox, etc. does not dig under the pen to access the swan. You will need a wire covering on the fence so that the predators cannot jump into the pen area.

The female will need to acclimate to the new habitat and the male swan before being released (approximately 2 weeks). If there is any sign of aggression, this means that the male is not going to accept her and you will need to leave him on his own. If there is a predatory issue in the area, you may be better off not providing the male with a mate and the possibility of another victim for the predator. Good Luck. The Regal Swan
