Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Single white swan (Joy from Michigan)

We had a pair of white swans on our lake which had 5 babies this summer. The 7 of them hung together the whole season. For the past couple weeks there has only been one lonely swan. The rest must have flown south for the winter. Our lake is 15 acres and freezes over in winter. It's getting very chilly here in West Michigan and I feel bad for the single swan. He (she) seems to float in the same spot day after day and continues to dip his head underwater for food frequently. What do you think is going to happen to it? Do you think the other 4 babies paired up and left him alone? I feel so bad for him...
Thanks,
Joy
