widowed swan response

Thanks so much for your response to my dilemma. I didn't give enough information the first time. Lucille is about 6-7 years old and I have had her since she was a juvenile, same with Steve. About two months ago Steve began having balance issues on land and it became increasingly worse. I then took him to Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital for treatment He tested negative for West Nile. The diagnosis was he had a neurological disease. The vet prescribed meds in the event there was a bacterial infection involved. Steve didn't improve although it is not real easy to administer meds to a swan twice a day for 14 days! He became severely unbalanced and appeared to be losing muscle and weight over the last 5 days. When I found him dead he had been partially eaten by something (raccoons, snapping turtle??). My greatest hope is he died first before the critters got to him. If the predators killed him, it was because he was seriously weak and unable to escape or defend himself.

At this point I am wondering if a solo female swan can flourish alone with occasional waterfowl (ducks, geese) around? I will need to move and can take her with me to the new house that also has a pond, albeit smaller that what she is used to. Thanks again!
