I live in England ( Oxfordshire ) on the river 'Windrush' and am fortunate enough to have become close to the wildlife here, most specifically the swans.. we had terrible flooding and loss of nests, then some public disturbance after , each resulting in nesting upsets so when the swans proudly came down the river this Summer boasting 5 cygnets I was of course THRILLED. However they disappeared about a week or two after this and not until early October did I see ONLY one swan , without its mate, no family, I am wondering if there is any possible explanation for this other then they all perished or something horrible.... do swan couples spend time apart? I saw one adult and one (now white ) youth , last week ... Any thoughts?
