Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Re: Mute swan without a mate: Is it better to remove the eggs? (Den)

Hi Guys,

who says this swan is without mate and these eggs are infertile? From what I see there are two couples and 2 nests. Also, several locals, one of them claimed to have a degree in nature science, told me that authorities of Stanley part each year deliberately either destroy eggs or kill babies. And that is perfectly corresponds to media - "population of swans at Lost Lagoon deliberatley descreased since 1970, because they are not natural habitants of this lake" Ok, then remove poor birds from the lake completely to some good place willing to take them, but not do this cruelty to their kids each year!
