Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Winter Question (Robyn Colajezzi)

Greetings!
I had written you a while back about Conrad, the swan we adopted but didn't know a whole heck of a lot. Good news....Conrad turned out to be female, so we call her Lady Conrad now. We found a mate, and he is Lord Chesterfield. They are doing Fabulous!!!!! Lady Conrad has changed so much and I realized how stressed and lonely she must have been for those few months that she was alone.
With winter approaching, I've been trying to find a blower to keep some of the pond from freezing (I am in Pennsylvania and the pond always freezes). I am not having any luck. Any suggestions? Also, last year we were blanketed bu huge amounts of snowfall (2 feet at one time) .... How do the swans survive this and is there anything I can do to help protect them?
Thank you!
Robyn
