This morning the beautiful female mute swan living on our lake was found dead. We suspect she fell victim to one of the large snapping turtles that share the lake. She leaves behind her mate and three cygnets, born at the beginning of May. So far, the male has not abandoned the cygnets, but we're wondering what to expect. Is it likely that the male will continue to raise the cygnets? Will he chase them off the lake in the fall, as he has in years past? Are the prospects good for these cygnets? Thanks for any advice.
