Hi Christine:

This may be a swan that is resting before traveling on or a juvenile swan that was left behind to find its own mate and habitat. If the juvenile is too young, it may not be until next year that he/she finds a mate. Usually another swan will fly by or this one will leave and begin the search for a mate or new habitat.
