Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: One male and two female swans, new male swan dead (Sandra)

I live in a condo w/ lake, and last year we acquired two male swans for our lake. (we did not want babies) well last month one died. We then got another male swan and two female swans and decided babies were not such a bad thing. that was twenty days ago. It seems the original male swan (Jac) and the two females were aggressively picking and biting at the new male swan. Our single duck is even coping there behavior. The breeder said it was because Jac could not decided which female he wanted. OK i get that.

Well this morning the picked on swan was dead. and the other three are swimming around like nothing happened.

My question for you is can these three swans (1 male, 2 female) live a happy life together or are we going to have to introduce another male at some point in time? I am so worried that they will not like another new swan and kill it too...

If we can keep at three and be happy and healthy then we will stay.

thank you for any information you can give me

Sandy
