Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Dead Swans (Barbara)

I live on the River Ivel in Langford, Bedfordshire. We have for years had a pair of swans who each year have a few offspring.

Lately the male (I think) has been on his own and I assume she was on the nest. He was on my garden a few days ago, looking hungry.

I now hear on the internet that both the swans have been found dead on their nest about quarter of a mile up the river. I am not sure anyone knows what if anything, they should do about them. Will they be left there to rot away - a bit gross - and someone was wondering whether the eggs could be incubated.

Apart from it being such a shame to lose such beautiful creatures - what if anything could be done. Apparently RSPCA would only be involved if they were injured.
