Just a couple more things, the female is about 10-12 years old, the male is 3 years old. The male has basically run the female off her nest, he try's to peck her if she tries to eat when he is around, then try's to drown her and there is a difference when they mate and when he is trying to drown her, they don't do the "happy dance" when he tries to drown her. He is also getting more aggressive with us, coming out of the water after us when we anywhere close to the pond. Not sure what to do about all this, he wasn't like this last year at nesting time.
