Hi Mike:
A little white bread is not detrimental to a swan despite what many individuals contend. Bread should be given as a treat only and not used as a nutritional supplement as it holds not nutritional value. Wheat bread would probably be better, but white bread, again is not that detrimental as long as it is not the sole food source or given in large amounts. Rye bread may not be great because typically, swans are not seed eaters. One slice of white bread a day is not too much and will not harm the bird or the environment. Too much bread can change the bird’s blood chemistry, but again, it would need to be the sole source of the swan’s food and the bird would need to eat a loaf or more a day. The Regal Swan
