Dear SIr;

I live in Beijing China. Currently I am writing a book for children. I have a question about feeding swans. I remembered that I read a book about a Canadian family living with swans in cold winters. According to my memory (wish not wrong!), the book mentioned that the swans could eat rice on water but not able to eat on ice, which caused some swans die for this reason. Recently I watched a video on Youtube, which revealed that people can feed swans on snow. My question is:

Are swans able to eat rice on ice or very hard and smooth ground (not just on snow)?
