I live on a 1.5 acre lake that has a lot of waterfowl and we currently have 2 pair of black swans on it, both pair are male and female.
1 pair this year had 4 babies(3 now, 1 died) and the other pair laid eggs but did not hatch. The pair that had babies this summer also had 2 babies still on the pond from last summer. both of the babies/teenagers died or were kill within 1 week of each other.
my question: is our pond over populated in swans? Will the parents kill their young. when should the offspring be removed?
I believe the pond size supports 1 pair of swans but need to convince the neighbors.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
