In Response To: Swan aggression on new swan (Marty)

Our male swan died last winter in very cold NE Ohio. Our breeder sold us a young male that we added to our pond this month. The female (well-established for at least the last 5-6 years) has been very aggressive. I put out food in different places and the male is eating. The female, however, is pretty consistent in chasing him out of the water and pecking at him, occasionally, coming away with a few feathers in her mouth. How long does this behavior continue, and is the new male in any danger from the stress, etc?

The pond is completely fenced in, and in the past we have had as many as 2 adults and 3 one year old cygnets in the pond before selling the cygnets when they reached a good size. Thank you for your assistance.
