Hi Amelia:

All organisms are dependent upon each other and their habitats, so swans are just a fraction of the number of living organisms that inhabit a wetland, pond, lake or other body of water.

Fish, frogs, turtles, birds, snakes, raccoons, foxes, alligators, minks, coyote, bobcat, panther, bear, elk, deer, cattle, etc., whether predators or prey, rely on water. Humans are no different. We rely on fish and birds, such as ducks and geese for food sources, water for drinking and irrigation, aquatic vegetation for food, poultices, medicines and even a means to filter our water supply and cattle for food and leather goods.

Butterflies, bees, turtles and frogs are recognized as habitat sentinels and their proliferation signifies whether the air or water is clean. Pollution can ruin habitats and these monitors will not survive in less than ideal conditions. So, if the habitat is clean and has an ample nesting, water and food resource, swans and other waterfowl/wildlife will flourish and humans will also reap the benefits. The Regal Swan
