In Response To: Re: Female swan missing after sitting on nest for a week (Beth)

hi it is Beth again. You were sadly correct. My beautiful Giselle was found by neighbors. She was eaten by coyotes. I know this because Sully the male sat the nest after her disappearance. The night after Giselle went missing he was in the water acting crazy and I saw the coyotes. He did not go back to the nest. I am glad because he would have had the same horrid fate as his mate. I grabbed the eggs after I was sure he had abandoned the nest. I put them in an incubator, correct temp and humidity. I only have a Candler for chicken eggs. If my count is correct Giselle had just finished laying her 6th egg the day before she disappeared. She may have already been sitting hard I am not sure as I gave the nest wide berth. I don't know if any of the eggs survived. I can see a large dark area in each of the eggs that are much bigger than a week ago but with the light I have I can't see any red arteries. I am just desperate as Giselle was a HUGE part of our family. Is there any hope any of the 5 eggs can make it?
