The melting of the pond is a good thing and will allow you to entice him to seek food from you. Keep enticing him with the food as close to your house as possible with bread. Place the cracked corn and layer pellets in a flat pan filled with water and try to lead him to the pan. Once he figures this out, you can possibly catch him or lure him into a garage.

Swans are funny creatures. Once they figure out food is in the area, they could care less about moving any distance away from an easy meal. So, keeping him in a safe dry environment is not going to harm him. The possibility that he will fly away and go on a migratory pattern without his family is not a reality this winter, so you will need to provide him with shelter at your house or a waterfowl/wildlife rehabilitation center.
