Ask the Swan Specialist

In Response To: Strange action from my swans (male chasing female, used to be loving) (Kim)

We bought our home last summer and it came with 2 swans on the pond. We feed them daily and they are usually very loving to each other and stay together at all times. Yesterday we couldn't find one of the swans anywhere. Today she showed up on our front porch, which is on the other side from the pond. (I've never seen the very far out of the water, but never around the front of the house). She way laying in what looked like green and yellowish and blackish fluid. I went out to take her some food and she got up, so we tried to herd her back to the pond. She was more than happy to follow, but as we rounded the back of the house the other swan (I think the male) came out of the water and started chasing her. She ran back around the house and has nestled herself back under the front portico. I did put food out and she hasn't touched it. These are wild swans and don't let me get closer than 5 feet or so to them. I don't know what to do, I don't want to lose her. Thanks for any help you might be able to give.
