In Response To: Re: Can swans eat brewery byproducts? (The Regal Swan)

Hi Dawn:

The fermented byproducts could possibly kill the swans. We would suggest not to place the swans in these areas. Swans need clean free-flowing (or use of an aerator) fresh water and aquatic vegetation to survive. Eventually, the fermented materials have the potential to pollute the waters by changing pH levels which will ultimately cause stagnation and the possible killing of aquatic vegetation.

You would also need to check with your local Fish & Game Commission as you may need a permit to possess and import the swans into your area. An acre would be sufficient for about 4 swans, but you will have issues if you get mating pairs and cygnets start hatching. The swans will be too close together and there will be territorial fighting. Also, you will need to pinion the cygnets at 1-3 weeks of age and eventually find homes for them. The Regal Swan
