(follow up to my last post re discovery of neighboring swans)
I'm pretty sure the swans on neighboring property are immature Bewicks. I've been researching different swan species and evaluating photos. This pair are about the same size or slightly smaller than Swany...have wider necks and different (muted color) beaks... and grayish legs (not black, like Swany). I don't believe they are mature - especially because they were not the least bit territorial when I was right outside the wrought iron property fencing looking at them. If they are in fact Bewicks, would male mate with a Whooper? At what age do male swans mate? I'll try to get a pic today. I never noticed them before, either because the pond is denseley landscaped and populated with many ducks and geese... OR because these swans are a recent addition.
