Hi Tom:
It sounds like bumblefoot. If the "bump" is open and oozing or the swan is having great difficulty in walking on land, a veterinarian with experience in waterfowl should be contacted. If the swan is able to walk with no difficulty, there is no bleeding or oozing and the wound is not open, then there isn't a whole lot that can be done for the condition. Bumblefoot is usually precipitated by some trauma to the foot from rough surface substrates such as concrete, asphalt or rock. Once the wound is abraded, an infection sets in and a hard callous-like structure forms.
As for the grass under the tongue, is there a hole in the tongue in which the grass is collecting? If so, then an avian veterinarian should look at this opening which may need to be drained, an antibiotic administered and the opening sutured to prevent further collection of the grass. We hope that this information is of benefit. The Regal Swan
