Swany continues to enlarge the nest (it's now quite expansive) and is taking excellent care of her egg. Everyone here (family & friends) are extremely impressed by Swany's maternal behavior - especially considering that everyone (except me) has been a target of Swany's notoriously irascible disposition! (I am the only person who Swany behaves toward in a companionable, and often protective, manner).

Swany is like a different swan now. She pretty much ignores people and pets (and even me!) unless any of us get "too close" to her nest - in which case she stands up, opens her wings, and loudly honks her disapproval. While we are proud of Swany's dramatic "transformation," we are also concerned that she may be traumatized by the inevitable "disappointment" to come.

In any case, I will continue to keep you posted and try to get a pic to send. Thank you again for your replies and wonderful website.
