Great question. It is known that all animals and birds have hormones that regulate fertility. However, some knowledge is unknown in various species regarding exactly when the timeline shuts off. This is especially true for swans as we are in a 3 year project to research daily baseline standards for hormones. Our next step in the research will be to ascertain the sex hormone baseline during mating and nesting season.

Our research has spanned 10 years and we do know that swans in captive settings with excellent humane veterinary medical care, food, shelter and habitat can live up to 30 years. Again, there has been no exact research on when the fertility stops in a swan. Hopefully, our and other swan investigators will fill this void in research. The Regal Swan
