Hi Lou:
Males will chase and fight with males during nesting season as well as females fighting with other females. However, it is highly unlikely that a female will get involved with two males in a drag down knock out fight because she could get hurt.
Just as in human life, if something bigger and better comes along, the mate will step out on its mate. The old adage that swans mate for life is usually true, but not always. Depending on the individual swan and the particular species, fidelity will occur especially after successfully raising cygnets to adulthood.
More than likely, the swan that is with your swan is Tycho. Even after getting his rear end beaten, the female will still go back to him. The other swan may just have been telling Tycho that he is the big man on the block and don't come out of your pond. In any case, it is highly unlikely that the new swan would come out of water and start begging for food with the female. If he is new to the pond, he would be staying in the water awaiting the female to return to the pond with him. Call him and see if he answers his name. Our guess is that you still have Tycho and his mate. The Regal Swan
