Featuring: The Regal Swan Foundation®, Inc. in the UK

Orlando, FL – (May 8, 2013) The Telly Awards has named “Born to Explore” with Richard Wiese™ as a Bronze winner in the 34th Annual Telly Awards. Nearly 11,000 entries were submitted from all 50 states and numerous countries. Founded in 1979, it is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video and films.

“Born to Explore” with Richard Wiese™ won the Bronze Award, the Telly’s second highest honor, for its episode “England: The Royal Swan.” Along with CEO, Sheila Bolin and several dedicated members of The Regal Swan Foundation®, the RSF researchers were filmed helping rescue swans along the Thames with Wendy Hermon, Treatment Centre and Rescue Co-ordinator for Swan Lifeline. The group also built nests at Abbotsbury, the world’s oldest and largest swannery with more than wild 900 swans, under the leadership of David Wheeler, Swan Herd. The researchers included: Bolin, Dr. Geoffrey R. Gardner, Dr. Christopher W. Brown, Dr. Fanchon F. Funk, Shirley Bolin, and Angi Peretti. The Regal Swan® Foundation, Inc. is based in Orlando, Florida and is committed to the humane treatment and veterinary medical care for swans worldwide.

“Born to Explore” with Richard Wiese™ is an adventure, travel and culture show that airs weekly on most ABC stations. The show focuses on the relationship between people and their environment, and takes an authentic educational approach to the earth’s wildlife and its unique cultures from Australia to Chile and India to South Africa.

“Our small passionate team is honored to be recognized by the Telly Awards,” commented Richard Wiese. “Every week, we try to create a show that is not only entertaining and educational for our viewers, but also socially conscious. Exploration is not only about the discovery of the natural world,” he continued. “It’s also about creating a positive understanding of the many fascinating cultures on our planet.”

For its 34th season, The Telly Awards once again joined forces with YouTube to give the public the power to view and rate videos, as the Internet community helps decide the People’s Telly Awards winners. “The Telly Awards has a mission to honor the very best in film and video,” said Linda Day, Executive Director of the Telly Awards. “Born to Explore” with Richard Wiese’s accomplishment illustrates their creativity, skill, and dedication to their craft and serves as a testament to great film and video production.

About The Regal Swan
The Regal Swan, Inc.,® is based in Orlando, Florida and its researchers have gained international attention for their work in identifying a bacteria causing feathers in swans in the U.K. and the U.S. to turn pink in color as well as pioneering the use of vaccines to mitigate swan deaths due to botulism and the West Nile Virus. In addition to the educational and research aspects of the Foundation’s work, specific swan care products to enhance the humane treatment of swans were produced. Swan care products created by Regal Swan® researchers include veterinary medical slings, nesting platforms and temporary indoor holding pens.

The organization has received the prestigious Jefferson Award; the National Daily “Point of Light” Award; as well as the Governor’s “Point of Light” Award, for its dedication to the care of swans. Sheila Bolin was named, “Scientist of The Month,” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, IUCN.
