Ask the Swan Specialist

Was swan drowning the other? or mating with it?

Hi

Today at the river I saw one swan chase another...and caught up with it, then, holding the other captive, held it down by the neck and I was sure it was drowning the captive one. OR was it a normal mating ritual? The captive one each time it came up was screeching or maybe its normal?

about 5 mins later it left its captive alone.
