I live on a small lake where there has been two resident black swans (male & female pair) for at least six months. They are quite territorial as usually chase away any other visiting swans. I know they are the same couple as they are tagged by the local council. Just today the male swan was with another female much to the distress of the other female. She has been following the 'new' couple from a distance and gets chased away by the new female if gets too close. Very sad as she doesn't want to leave. From everything I've read, I thought swans mate for life? Is it likely they will re-mate?
Thanks
