Thanks for your reply and the good information. But the creek does and is freezing.
The marshy area where they go for the night is already totally frozen and the banks on both sides are covered with ice. Last night they were battling the ice flows in the middle trying to get to the banks.
I mistakenly bought a bag of whole corn, not cracked, but they are eating it. And they both love peas so I will continue to use them as treats. I will get the poultry pellets today.
Back in September I spoke with my neighbors and suggested that we should stop feeding them so they would leave when the cold came, everybody agreed it was a good idea but now say they can't resist those beautiful faces. I guess I am just as guilty.
