do swan migrate during winter?

hi,
i live in scotland near edinburgh. there is a single lone swan living near our office area (very pretty and with lots of ponds) for 2 months now. it is always by itself. now the water in the pond is beginning to freeze up. it is left with little swimming area. it doesn't seem to be hurt or anything. i just feel it is kinda lonely all by itself all the time. it would swim up towards me when i walk by. i guess it sort of recognised me perhaps?
i don't know swan very well but do they migrate? shouldn't it be in warmer area? also can i survive below zero temperature?
thanks,
ida
