If there is something wrong, i.e., illness or injury, the swan will stay to itself. This is nature's way to keep an illness from spreading to the flock or having a predator (enticed by a possible easy target), from following the swan back to the flock.

There is also another possibility. The young swan may be male and the adult parent is encouraging him to leave the habitat prior to the next mating/nesting season. This chasing prevents possible mating competition with the adult parents.

As long as the swan can fly, eat, drink, bathe and behave normally, then it should be fine. However, if you think that it is not eating normally, etc., then we would suggest you contact the RSPCA or a wildlife/waterfowl/swan rescue facility or sanctuary so someone may come out and check on its health and well-being.
