Hi Fred:

All swan species will exhibit the guard position of the wings especially if the swan is a male and if the swan believes that it is being threatened. As far as the heart shape, this is the "love dance" performed by the swan mates prior to copulating.

Do you know the color of the swans' wings and beaks. This will give us a better idea of the species. The Regal Swan
