In Response To: Re: swans not getting along (The Regal Swan)

Hi Tom:

Unfortunately, we have been trying to alert the public about US and state wildlife officials introducing the larger Trumpeter Swans for Trophy Waterfowl hunting purposes for years. These larger swans are being introduced into many areas so that their numbers will increase and hunting can begin. Trumpeters are much larger and much more defensive than the other swans and can intentionally or inadvertently seriously injure or kill other waterfowl from their shear size.

Because the Trumpeters are protected, unless they are brought in as a captive group, there is not much you can do. If they are captive, then the only thing you can do is to form some type of barrier so that the Trumpeters cannot access the other swans. Come springtime, the Australian Black Swans are not the only species that will come under attack from the Trumpeters, but all wildlife trying to nest in the area. The Regal Swan
